This guide gives a wide range of volunteer opportunities from animal care, food and meal programs to health and arts, with contacts, websites and phone numbers provided for most listings.

Please use the SHS Community Service Form to track your volunteer hours and to get more information about obtaining volunteer service recognition at graduation. Another great way to be engaged in your community is to GET OUT AND VOTE!! Saratoga Union School District:
Earn volunteer hours and help students and teachers in your community!  Become a Summer School Teaching Assistant (TA) for Saratoga Union School District!  Assist a teacher and younger students in a summer Reading class at Foothill or Redwood Schools. Training is provided. Proof of volunteer service hours are provided at the conclusion of the program. Summer school dates are June 17-July 12 in the mornings.  TA's must be 14 years or older as of June 17, 2019. Questions? Youth Day Symposium: 
The NanoSeed Club will be hosting a Youth Day Symposium on Sunday May 12th from 1:00 to 3:30. There will be speakers, performances, and food like POPCORN CHICKEN! They will also be making origami flowers for Mother’s Day to be give to mothers around the community. Volunteer hours will be given to all who contribute. 

Saratoga Rotary: 
Saratoga Rotary is in need of student volunteers for help with Kids Korner, entertainment, student art and similar roles. Students will receive Community Service Hours and may work at shifts that fit their schedules.  The art show needs help from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturday, May 4, and Sunday, May 5.  Although we have a schedule, a student may work a shorter shift or multiple shifts. Please contact Reiko (Adrienne) Iwanaga at or call 408-209-1747. Youth Science Institute (YSI): YSI is looking for motivated high school students to help with their summer science camps. Hakone Matsuri: 
20th Annual Hakone Matsuri (Festival) at Hakone Estate and Gardens will be held on Sunday, May 19, from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM (volunteer workers start from 10:00am and finish at 5:00pm, including a 1 hour lunch break).

Tutor at Sartorette Elementary School: Sartorette Elementary School needs your help providing free tutoring services to young students. According to Fall 2017 data, 25% of their students are socioeconomically disadvantaged and 50% of their students "nearly met" or "not met" the CA standard. Your tutoring will make a difference in their lives. Dates: Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Fridays (once a week) from 3-4PM. Location: 3850 Woodford Dr, San Jose, 95124. Interested? Fellowship Plaza Senior Citizen Retirement Home, Saratoga: Volunteer high school students are needed to assist senior residents learn computer skills and help them go online or learn more about their laptops, iPads, tablets, etc. Bilingual students are also much appreciated to serve their diversified community of English, Mandarin, Persian, Korean and Russian speaking residents. If you would like to volunteer call the Fellowship Plaza office at 408-867-1105 and leave your name and number for Mia or Susan, who will call you back to set up a schedule based on your availability.

Good Samaritan Hospital - If you are interested in volunteering at Good Sam, call the Junior Auxiliary at 408-559-2345 to have an application packet mailed to your home. Students are now placed as needed on a monthly basis throughout the year. You can check the website also for updates at

Cystic Fibrosis Research located in Mountainview funds research, provides educational and personal support and spreads awareness of cystic firbrosis. This non-profit organization has volunteer opportunities for students. For more information call 650-404-9975 or go to

West Valley Community Services: Many volunteer opportunities are available at this private, non-profit community based agency in Cupertino that provides a continuum of basic needs, family support services, housing resources and case management to low-income or homeless clients.
